The Tone That Binds

Music can be one of two things- an anchor to your current reality or a ticket to a trip elsewhere albeit temporary. Now you might be wondering why listening to music is filed under the label Self Care. Well, it ranks up there in my top 5, together with running and swimming.

As a parent, searching for ways to stay sane and sober amidst the coronavirus chaos is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your child. If you are like me and a million others whose primary source of income was compromised, your emotions are still probably all over the place causing a huge disturbance for your child. Since we are the adults and we are the ones developmentally equipped to adapt, then we set the course to a new normal version of our parent-child connection. How do we start? With self-care, naturally.

If you have not found yours yet, I say now is the best time to start on that quest for the ultimate stress buster. There are many self-care ideas out there that are free or cheap if finances are an issue, as almost everything is these days. It is just a matter of finding what works for you, what will best help you cope with life right now.

Because your child's immediate need during this pandemic is a parent who has her act together

I will leave you with a song from one of my favorite humans of all time. He's also the ONLY reason I arrived to class a bit late back in the days because MTV did another rerun of their 1992 Unplugged session. Eddie Vedder is and always will be the tone that binds me to the here and now.

Listening to a familiar voice brings a sense of normalcy in a world I am now finding hard to recognize.
